Sparring Class (Sanshou)


Class on Tuesdays 7:30pm-9:00pm 

Sanshou is a universal rule set designed to unify all Chinese Martial Arts into a full contact sporting event. Students will learn to use punching, kicking, throwing and sweeping techniques that have evolved from the Nan Shaolin Wuzuquan system into a modern sporting context.

This is a fun, fast paced class that allows students to test what they have learnt in a safe, controlled yet challenging environment.   This can be taken as a standalone class but also acts as a great supplement to the traditional Kung Fu.

What to expect:

This is a sparring class and students should expect contact. However no one will be expected to spar until ready and willing.

  • Pad work
  • Footwork drills
  • Throwing, sweeping & takedown practice
  • Full and semi contact sparring

Did a Sparring and Fitness class with Andrew at this gym in Watford. I found the teacher to be very patient and he seemed very well informed. The class was well structured and it felt like I was getting alot for my money.

Andrew also seemed to be tailoring the difficulty of the class to mine and the other students capabilities well – I’m a total amateur and didn’t feel out of my depth. Though I was definitely pushed phyically! Great class, great value 5/5

Equipment required:

Students will require gum shields, groin guards, boxing gloves and shin pads as a minimum for this class.  Some students may also choose to wear head and chest protection.

These items can be borrowed from the club but for hygiene reasons students are advised to purchase their own (which can be bought from The Focus Room).
